Quincy Street Park
In response to the neighboring community, the City of Somerville has been working on an exciting renovation of an existing open space on Quincy Street. To date, the Mayor's Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development, in partnership with the Quincy Street Park Community, Alderman Maryann Heuston, and a team of landscape architects, have held five well-attended public meetings to discuss renovation ideas for the park.
Features of this new community green space include:
three slightly terraced levels with a lawn, tree canopy, and native shrubs and groundcover plantings emphasizing the native New England landscape and encouraging bird habitats
an ADA accessible boardwalk path with bluestone accent areas
a raised deck optimizing views from the sight
a variety of seating areas
places for discovery by children and adults
At the last community meeting held on Tuesday May 3, 2011, the final plan was presented to the community which was very supportive of the design. The final plan for the park is available on the right sidebar to view or download as a PDF.

After reviewing public comments, the landscape architects will make final adjustments to the plan, and develop the construction documents throughout the summer. Next, the project will be put out to bid, and it will break ground in the fall. The ribbon cutting for Quincy Street Park is scheduled for early next year (2012).
