The renovation plans for the North Street Veterans Playground are underway and construction is currently being planned. The new design will include a larger, safer, and more attractive recreation space that provides for all neighborhood residents and respects the community's desire to create a positive environment for our youth.
To date the city has held several community meetings to solicit public input for the design and a "preferred plan" has been developed which can be reviewed on the City of Somerville Website, and on a signboard posted at the playground. Agreed upon changes will include better lighting, new entrances and circulation paths, more green space and trees, creative and stimulating play features for various age groups, half-court basketball, seating, game tables, a water feature, and 100% ADA accessibility.
Next Steps
With the preferred plan in mind, our next steps will be to obtain as much additional community input as possible and then incorporate those ideas into a final draft of the plan which will be presented to the public at the next community meeting in early February 2012.
Comments from that meeting will then be incorporated into the finished plan.
